Leadership Challenger: Dodge's legendary pony car will rival Ford's
Mustang for the muscle-car crown.
The design is modern, but still tips its hat to the original car.
This isn't meant to be a simple copy of the legendary 1970 Dodge Challenger.
It's meant to be the Dodge Challenger in your mind's eye.
So,yes, it has the kicked-up shoulder line. The echoing kick in the window
line. The high boot, the wide tail lamps. The hood scoops, the quad headlights.
The orange paint. The anvil-like air of blue-collar menace.
However,it doesn't have an awkwardly long front overhang,or tucked-under wheels,or
crooked bumpers, orshutliness you can see from space.
Because in your fond memories, your mind's eye blots them out.
Even the typeface on the dials conjure up that 70's feeling
It was unveiled as a concept at the Detroit show, but something like it will
almost certainly go on sale in America as a Mustang competitor in three years'
time. Steel yourself, though, for the usual let-downs,like smaller wheels and
a cheapened cabin.
Power weill be V6 and V8,with top ones having a full-on SRT Hemi. But,for
now, we're happy enough just drinking in the show-car's fine retro design
