Maserati gives Ferrari the blues:
Maserati is building a rival to Ferrari’s extreme FXX track car-and
unlike the MC12 racer it’s based on, private buyers will be able to
order one.
The only catch is the MC12 Corsa costs a Bugatti Veyron rivalling 1 million
euros plus tax, and you will either have to be invited to buy one or convince
its maker you are not just after one to turn a quick profit. Maserati expects
to produce 12 of the Enzo-based track cars per year. It’s not road legal,
and unlike the MC12 GT1 has not been homologated for racing.
Unshackled by any championship rules, it boasts more power, 747bhp, compared
with the GT1’s 591bhp. It also has two seats over the race car’s
one. These pictures, taken from a leaked brochure, show it looks quite different
from the GT1, with new air intakes and aero package, plus front wing indicators.
The GT1’s race box has been replaced by a version of Maserati’s
Cambiocorsa box. The standard issue colour is Blue Victory, but buyers can
personalise their cars with other paint and adjustable dampers, and have the
option of annual technical upgrades from the factory.
For MC12 Corsa owners worried that they won’t get to race them next
year, Maserati plans six events across Europe specifically for the car. For
260,000 euros (178k pounds), you get a season’s entry, which includes
tyres, fuel, servicing and even “leisure clothing”. Form a queue
